DENISE
APOSTOLATOS
PAPOU (2016)
Traditionally in Greek culture, children are named after their grandparents and withhold variations of religious names. Each religious figure has a day allotted throughout the year for a celebration known as a "Name Day". It is celebrated like a birthday and there is great pride as well as familial connections held in this tradition. Papou, meaning grandfather in Greek, commemorates the special personal connection from being named after him and being a part of me.
